The 2011 Kia Optima Hybrid

At the Los Angeles Auto Show, Kia has unveild its 2011 Optima Hybrid which is created specifically for the U.S. market. This hybrid car that some are calling it the Prius Killer, features a full parallel hybrid system which consists of a 168 PS (124 kW / 166 hp) 2.4-liter petrol engine and a 30 kW (41 PS / 40 hp) electric motor. All told, the two can work together to produce a combined 209 PS (154 kW / 206 hp) and 265 Nm (194 lb-ft) of torque.

The Optima offers accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 9.2 seconds and hit a top speed of 121 mph (195 km/h). More importantly, fuel consumption is expected to be 36 mpg city / 40 mpg highway (US). It also installed with a 34 kW lithium-ion battery which enables the hybrid to operate in EV mode at speeds up to 100 km/h (62 mph).
The Optima Hybrid is expected will be hit showrooms in early 2011 and will sell for around $22,000. Toyota Camry Hybrid that priced $26,575 would be its direct competitor.


Tesla Model X Electric SUV Coming in 2014



Reportedly, Teslas Motors and Toyota have intoducted an electric version of the RAV4, which will be namely the Tesla Model X. According to Tesla CEO, Elon Musk, the prototype of this EV SUV is expected will be presented in late 2011.

While we wait for the Tesla Model X, you can also see the highly anticipated electric sedan at the picture above, called the Tesla Model S which which will be produced in mid 2012 with an anticipated production volume of 7,000 in the first year, followed by another 20,000. Pricing is expected to come in at $49,900 after a federal tax credit of $7,500. A $5,000 reservation fee is required but is refundable.

Honda Fit EV Coming to U.S. in 2012

At the Los Angeles Auto Show, Honda has recently announced its all-new Fit EV Concept electric vehicle and the platform for a midsize plug-in hybrid vehicle, which are integral to the Honda Electric Mobility Network, the company’s comprehensive approach to reducing CO2 emissions through innovative products, energy-management and energy-production technologies. Both of them will be availble in showrooms in 2012. The Fit EV concept at the picture above is identical to the gas-fueled version in body and layout. It is powered by a high-density motor that combines a lithium-ion battery and coaxial electric motor, derived from the FCX Clarity fuel cell electric vehicle. The car has a top speed of 90 mph and a range of 100 miles per charge. This powertrain uses an innovative 3-mode electric drive system and its battery recharging can be accomplished in less than 12 hours when using a conventional 120-volt outlet, and less than six hours when using a 240-volt outlet

Mission One PLE- to be the world's fastest production electric motorcycle


The Mission One Premier Limited Edition (PLE) represents a revolution in motorcycle and electric vehicle performance. Mission Motors’ advanced electric drive system makes the Mission One PLE the first electric sportbike to power wheelie at 70 mph, powering the Mission One PLE to a top speed of 150 mph. It comes equipped with data acquisition system and wireless communication capability, so riders can capture and analyze real time ride data as well as have the power to adjust throttle maps, tune regenerative braking, and create multiple ride settings, all from a laptop computer.

Nissan New Mobility Concept 2010

Well known car maker, Nissan, has recently announced its new proposal for personal mobility called the Nissan New Mobility Concept. Nissan continues to envision new possibilities realized by EVs. This concept is “a sustainable, efficient and convenient mode of transportation focusing on the increase of elderly and single households, as well as the trend of driving short distances or in smaller groups.

Four keywords outline the NISSAN New Mobility CONCEPT:
Innovative – New two-seater compact mobility for various needs and occasions
Easy – Size which enables anyone to drive and park easily
Safe – Maneuverability equivalent to motorbikes with greater safety
Clean – No emissions while driving

The Nissan New Mobility Concept with EV the New Mobility EV concept provides an excelent handling, is designed for public transportation. It is a user-friendly, ultra-compact 100% electric vehicle with no emissions which is expected to be utilized in various situations in everyday life. Coming with 15 kW (20 hp) and 57 Nm (42 lb-ft) of torque, the NMC will have a range of 100km (62 miles) and a top speed of 75 km/h (47 mph).

2010 Cadillac Urban Luxury Concept

Candilac has recently introducted its new Urban Luxury Concept at the 2010 LA Auto Show. The Urban Luxury Concept is a vehicle designed for those who live in a city and need a smaller vehicle but don't want to compromise on the upscale tech. The conception of Luxury citified is an analysis examining the design of new types of vehicles that offer de luxe feel small in size. Its compact dimensions comes with a great design, features and technology for which Cadillac is known. ”The Cadillac citified deluxe scale concept celebrates with smart, sophisticated article that arrived careless unique with its size,” said Clay Dean, director of GM’s North American home design and ace Cadillac knife. ”It has a small exterior footprint, but it was in the area.” The Cadillac Urban Luxury Concept has a turbocharged 1.0L three-cylinder engine employing electric assist technology, engine start-stop function, brake energy regeneration and a dry dual-clutch transmission. Based on extensive prototype and production experience, a combination of these technologies could offer projected fuel economy of 56 mpg in the city and 65 mpg on the highway, in a vehicle of the size and configuration of the Urban Luxury Concept.
